Design icon. The legendary Saffo Lamp from 1967 pictured against the backdrop of the Lago di Como (Como Lake) in Italy. Picture perfect! The Saffo Lamp is an icon of Italian Space Age Design and a favorite among Stardust staff. Created by legendary Italian designer Angelo Mangiarotti for Artemide in 1967 together with his equally iconic Lesbo lamp. This Saffo lamp has been out of production for many years and is no longer available. With Saffo and Lesbo, Angelo Mangiarotti's lamps sought to "evoke architecture as a pool of water". The Lesbos Lamp was named after the ancient Greek Island "Lesbos" whereas "Saffo" was named after the Greek lyric poet named Saffo (Sappho). Both lamps are out of production but be sure to check Stardust.com periodically since there is always a chance they become available again someday.
