LC Shutters, the new pendant light designed by Louise Campbell for Louis Poulsen, is as carefully thought through as the rest of her collection for them. Like Poul Henningsen, whose iconic lights form the backbone of Louis Poulsen’s decorative collection, she never forgets that the lampshade serves two purposes: (1) to protect the eye from glare by ensuring that the lamp cannot be seen, and (2) to distribute the light where it is needed.  A beautiful new contemporary modern pendant lamp.

LC Shutters, offered through modern design retailer Stardust Modern Design, is a pendant lamp designed by Louise Campbell for Louis Poulsen. With its perforated pattern, LC Shutters provides an harmonious and soft light and lightens up the surface of the shade in a decorative way. The light source is surrounded by an opal diffuser, which ensures that the fixture is 100% glare-free. LC Shutters is available in two different versions – a completely white pendant lamp and a version with a pattern of various colours. Thus Louise Campbell comments on her design: "I aimed to draw attention to the balance between glare reduction and spreading the light in the room. The shade and diffuser are integrated. A single unit with a clear function – protecting against glare, creating atmosphere, but also diligently spreading the light. Despite the dense, hard material, the design expression is soft and friendly”. The elegant LC Shutters is perfect both in private homes and in public places.  Part of the Louis Poulsen modern lighting collection.

The concentrated light from the light source is filtered through an opalescent diffuser to ensure soft, comfortable light distribution. The softened light creates a pleasant atmosphere within the shade and ensures a gentle lighting effect on the outside, helping to illuminate and define the product's shape when lit. The aim was to create comfortable and atmospheric lighting fixture in both private and public settings. The starting point is a flat sheet of aluminium which is worked into the bell-shaped shade. The shade pattern is cut and pressed to form two interactive layers, through which the light is emitted in a high-precision pattern. The 3 mm thick shade ensures a very solid fixture, suitable for applications ranging from children's rooms to executive areas.

Louise Campbell said about the design of the LC Shutters lamp  "...the job is to create the transition from hard light to gentle light, to distribute the light kindly around the room, without wasting more light than necessary in the process….by letting the light slip through the many cracks and openings and lie soft and gently at the small platforms."  Of course, it also has to contribute towards the ambience of the space — as she says, "It is all about finding a delicate balance".
