Before the rise of the aluminum bike and long before the lightweight carbon fiber bikes we all want so bad today; the focus was streamlined steel.  This beautiful "concept bike" created by an unknown designer was introduced at the Industrial Design Show (unknown location) in 1944.  Part of the terrific collection of futuristic photographs by Wallace Kirkland featuring streamlined art moderne architecture, modern futuristic planes, boats, trains and automobiles; bikes which was recently introduced by the LIFE image library available on Google.  More images below!  Now we only need a time machine to take us back!
