The CH07 Shell lounge chair is Hans Wegner at his best; a simple and pure Scandinavian design classic. When Hans Wegner unveiled his CH07 Shell lounge chair in 1963, its bold curves and streamlined construction made it an instant icon. Hans Wegners three-legged CH07 Shell chair was originally produced in a few limited series, but the project soon came to a stand still. The 90s brought a growing interest in chairs of more individual designs. The chair was relaunched in 1997 and fortunately the new manufacturer had been able to keep down the costs. These two factors in combination resulted in an increasing market, and after 34 years oblivion the chair finally got its breakthrough. Not only is the CH07 Shell Chair beautiful and unique, but it is also incredibly comfortable! The perfect fusion of form and function, this is a piece of furniture you will cherish for years to come.

His style is often described as Organic Functionality, a modernist school with emphasis on functionality. This school of thought arose primarily in Scandinavian countries with contributions by Poul Henningsen, Alvar Aalto, and Arne Jacobsen. In his lifetime he designed over 500 different chairs, over 100 of which were put into mass production and many of which have become recognizable design icons. Many of Hans Wegner's wooden chairs are characterized by traditional joinery techniques including mortise and tenons, finger joints, and sculpted elements such as armrests and seat supports. Hans Wegner also utilized traditional construction for upholstered pieces, and often mixed materials such as solid wood, plywood, metal, upholstery, caning, and papercord.

Hans Wegner said of his work "I have always wanted to make unexceptional things of an exceptionally high quality..." The key designs featured here are known for taking traditional elements and pushing them to extreme tolerances and distillations.
