CULT Pierre Paulin Midcentury MODERN Design Space-Age GLOBE model lounge Design CHAIR

CULT Pierre Paulin Midcentury MODERN Design Space-Age GLOBE model lounge Design CHAIR  - We had a recent sit-in with supermodel Bar Refaeli during one of her Fashion & Style shoots in Milan and talked about her favorite design chair; turns out that Bar loves the Globe Lounge Chair designed by Pierre Paulin in 1960 for Artifort (available from Stardust Modern Design). She likes this iconic chair for its classy good looks and plush comfort. We couldn't agree more!  In Holland; where the chair is made; the Globe Lounge Chair has become part of the national heritage (you can compare it to the Eames Lounge & Ottoman in the US).  With its elegantly rounded shell on a chromed rounded pedestal, the Globe Chaise has all the qualities of a comfortable modern chaise. The Globe Lounge Chair was designed by French designer Pierre Paulin for Artifort in 1959/60. Pierre Paulin trained to become a sculptor in Paris but an unfortunate accident left one of his hands partially impaired. He turned to furniture design and designed numerous design classics for the Dutch furniture manufacturer Artifort. Pierre Paulin was able to infuse the free-flowing curves of sculpture into his fabulous chairs. This careful balance of rounded free-flowing design is typical of Pierre Paulin's organic furniture style. The simplicity and gently curved forms of his Globe Lounge Chair makes the design seem tranquil, pure and inviting. We wish Bar Refaeli continued success and will be featuring more famous design chairs soon!
